Evie pts 1, 2 & 3
It’s one of our countries’ all time great Rock n Roll songs, it’s our “American Pie”, it’s our epic song. It was written, produced and performed by Australian rock royalty, absolute bloody legends. So why does every frickin’ radio station feel the need to butcher it???
Evie pts 1, 2, & 3 was performed by Stevie Wright, the former lead singer of the Easybeats. It was written by the great Australian song writing team of Harry Vanda and George Young (who I did not know until recently is the older brother of Angus & Malcom Young of AC/DC fame!). It is eleven minutes of pure fucking Rock n Roll. It tells the entire story of boy meets girls, boys gets girl, boy tragically loses girl.
The song is a major opus. In many ways it represents a new maturity to the Australian music scene, a coming of age if you will. Every decent Aussie knows and love this song – in its’ glorious entirety.
So why, why in gods name to all our radio stations insist on truncating it and only playing the first section??? According to wikipedia, it is reportedly the only 11 minute song to make it to #1 on the charts – and that’s uncut! I don’t think that there’s a Australian rock music fan that isn’t disappointed when they get to the end of that first section only to not hear the dulcet piano refrain that signals the move into the rest of the song.
Why do you do this to us? Why play with our expectations and feelings? You’re just pissing us off. So Australian radio stations… PLAY THE WHOLE FUCKING SONG, or I’ll just turn you off and put on my “The Best Ever Beer Drinking Songs” CD and listen to it in its’ entirety.
WSFM, I’m looking at you…
You saying I’m not a decent Aussie? I have no idea which song you’re talking about.
